downward dog play

I’m going set a timer for five minutes.

Then, take a downward-facing dog yoga position.

I’m not going to worry about getting the pose to look perfect or even pretty.

Instead I’m going to feel into my body and see how it would like to move in this pose.

Perhaps it will want to shake each arm out one at a time.

…or lift a leg into the air and let it float around.

…or maybe my head will need to shake about.

…or my feet and ankles might need to move about like a track runner starting a race.

I’m going to stay open and focus for those five minutes on my body and whatever silly way it would like to move about.

It might even ask to come out of the pose and into something even more restful like child’s pose.

The possibilities are endless and all I need to do is listen to what my body is asking for at the time. No preparation needed.
